In honour Adam Reynolds and John Sutton’s fake bunny tattoos on their forehead I thought it was a good time to explore some of the more interesting tattoos in the NRL.

Ben Barba – While Ben Barba is no stranger to the tattoo gun with ink adorning his body from the neck down, some of his tattoos have gotten more attention than others and not by those admiring the artwork. The eagle that adorns Ben’s chest is quite the piece of art as is the church window on his stomach however its three little letters tattooed on his stomach that have gained the most interest. In 2012 Barba joined the Epic Bender Crew after he was seen to be sporting a tattoo with the letters EBC . While he has since covered the tattoo up it caused quite the stir with EBC a group based in the Cronulla Shire who do exactly what their name suggests have epic benders and live life to the fullest.

Jonathon Thurston – Thurston is undisputedly best player in the game but he can probably add the most recognisable tattoo to his list of achievements too. The thick outline of the wings of an angel seem to work as good as red bull for the playmaker who is flying above most other players in the game.

Sonny Bill Williams – I may have included SBW solely for his good looks, but he too has spent a fair amount of time in the tattoo parlour. The tribal inspired tattoos adorn his bulging muscles but are not just there to improve his good looks, instead they represent his Samoan heritage, something which Williams gets from his father.

Daniel Vidot – From one Samoan inspired tattoo to the next, Vidot is also quite the fan of neck tattoos. Like  Williams, Vidots tattoos honour both his heritage and his family. The self-confessed Mummy’s boy who moved to Brisbane to be closer to his family, shows his devotion and love to his family in a series of tattoos which cover his chest, arms, neck and legs.

Todd Carney – While Carney’s inability to find the toilet has left him absent from the football field this year, he definitely deserves an honourable mention. One of the more tattooed players in the game, Carney is probably not the smartest one. Forgetting his spelling rules from primary school, Carney famously got ‘life’s to short to wake up in the morning with regrets’ tattooed across his back. He may have forgotten an ‘o’ but we should probably be pleased he remembered the apostrophe in ‘life’s’.

Shaun Johnson – They say flowers are the way to a lady’s heart and perhaps that is why Johnson is adored by ladies across Australia and New Zealand with flowers covering his arms. The zippy New Zealand Warriors player has less ink then some of the above mentioned players but like all footballers with tattoos he has still managed to get his surname tattooed across his chest just incase he forgets who he is.

Sandor Earl – While peptides have seen Earl’s career be sidelined, during his time in Rugby League he was well known for his tattoos. Sutton and Reynolds may have thought they were quite the jokers with their cute little bunny tattoos, but the already heavily tattooed Earl fooled Australia as a part of an April Fools Day joke when he got (or more to the point didn’t get) the logo for Raiders sponsor Huawei tattooed on his rock solid quads.
